Mega numbers for a megacar.

The Veyron's retirement couldn't have come at a better time for Bugatti. Admittedly, it was on its last legs after its 10 year reign, even though it could still throw a punch at the new hyper-hybrid competition. Even so, nothing would have prepared it for what Koenigsegg unveiled at the Geneva motor show.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is the Regera, the first of its kind, new ruler of performance land and hypercar kingdom, slayer of Veyrons and the laws of physics.

The numbers this car produces are astonishing and its performance figures re-write your circuit board.

Within its bowels lies the well-known Konigsegg developed 5.0-litre V8 that pumps out 1100bhp at the rear wheels. Nothing out of the ordinary, you might think, but the combustion engine is aided by three electric motors with a combined output of 700bhp.

Yes, it's a hybrid and the total output this powertrain generates is ”way over” 1500bhp. Did i mention it hasn't got a gearbox?  The Regera uses something called the Koenigsegg Direct Drive system which is a subassembly that acts as a direct link from the combustion engine to the rear axle without the need of gears.

This translates into gruesome accelerations: It takes just 2.7 seconds for the Regera to reach 62mph from a standstill and 17 more to reach 250mph. Because it basically has no gears, the top speed is limited to the engine's rpm limit, but i think 255mph should suffice.

After reading these specs, it becomes quite clear that the Regera will obliterate the supercar species as we know it.
